Lakes

There are many beautiful lakes in the area. Some are at lower elevations, while others are located in the high country.

Bass Lake, nestled among tall pine trees, this popular recreation area provides opportunities for camping, boating, swimming, fishing and picnicking.

Black Rock Reservoir is a small remote scenic lake located on the North Fork of the Kings River offering un-crowded fishing and camping opportunities.

Courtright Reservoir is located in one of the most superb geological areas of California. Bare granite domes rise from the shores of Courtright Reservoir. Ice Age glaciers sculpted the mountain peaks, slopes and valleys giving them their unique present day shape.

Doris Lake is just a moderate one-mile hike from Mono Hot Springs Resort. It is a spring fed lake making it a popular old time “swimming hole” for decades. Fishermen also find the lake a wonderful place to drown a worm or two.

Edison Lake is surrounded by spectacular mountain peaks and wilderness; this lake serves as a popular backcountry destination that offers camping, boating, picnicking, hiking and fishing.

Florence Lake is a beautiful high Sierra lake that provides opportunities for camping, hiking, picnicking, boating, fishing and horseback riding. Florence Lake also serves as a starting point for wilderness hikers traveling to the John Muir Wilderness and Kings Canyon National Park.

Huntington Lake is a popular summer and winter recreation area. This beautiful high Sierra lake is best known for sailing and fishing. Other opportunities include camping, hiking, picnicking, horseback riding, and scenic driving.

Kerckhoff Reservoir is located on the South Fork of the San Joaquin River above Millerton Lake. This lake is accessible year round and provides opportunities for camping, boating, and fishing.

Mammoth Pool Reservoir is located on the San Joaquin River above North Fork. This lake is popular for fishing and boating. Other opportunities include camping, swimming, and hiking.

Pine Flat Lake is located in the oak covered foothills above the San Joaquin Valley. This lake is best know for houseboating, fishing, swimming, water skiing and wake boarding.

Portal Forebay is a small 20-acre lake located on the Kaiser Pass Road midway between Florence and Huntington Lakes. The lake serves as a holding forebay for the Portal Power House, which is located at Huntington Lake. This lake is best known for fishing.

Redinger Lake is located on the San Joaquin River above Kerckhoff Reservoir. Accessible year round, it is surrounded by oak and shrub covered foothills. This lake is popular for water skiing, wake boarding and fishing.

Shaver Lake is a popular recreational lake surrounded by dense pine forests. Operated by Southern California Edison it provides opportunities for picnicking, camping, hiking, fishing, houseboating, water skiing and wake boarding.

Tulle Lake is a moderate 2-mile hike from Mono Hot Springs and offers a serene peaceful setting for enjoying the beauty.

Twin Lakes – Lower Twin Lake is a nice little lake under a granite peak. Just a couple hundred feet further is Upper Twin Lake with caves to spelunk and a great lake to swim in. You can swim out to the island and find some rocks to jump from.

Ward Lake, just three acres in size, this quaint high Sierra lake provides visitors with a place to camp, fish and hike.

Wishon Reservoir is a picturesque high sierra lake that offers un-crowded opportunities for fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and horseback riding.
